This is a new decal
sheet from Cutting
Edge Modelworks. The sheet includes markings for 4 different Bf-109G's
in 1/24 scale. With the release of the BIG Trumpeter Bf-109G....there is a
serious need for aftermarket decals .....Cutting Edge has begun to fill the
need.
The first plane
on this sheet is a
Bf-109G6 flown by famous high scoring Ace Lt. Erich Hartman of 9./JG 52 while flying out of
Novosaporovyi, Russia in Oct 1943. Hartman had a total of 352 kills
to his credit by the end of the war. By Oct 1943 he had 121 kills to
his credit. This plane is painted RLM 74/75 on the top surfaces and
RLM 76 on the sides and underside. There was mottling on the side of
the fuselage. For artwork there is a red heart with a yellow
arrow through it and text that reads "Dicker Max Karaya".
Things that are of interest are the fact the yellow cowl panel under the
engine only covers the half of the panel. This plane is missing the
DF loop but it still has the base and this plane and it also has the early
style headrest.
The second plane
is a Bf-109G4 Trop flown by
high scoring Ace Oblt. Tonne, Staffelkapitan 3./JG 53 while flying out of
Bizerta, February 1943. Tonne had a total of 122 kills
to his credit by the end of the war. By Oct 1943 he had over 100 kills to
his credit. This plane is painted RLM 79/80 on the top surfaces and
RLM 78 on the sides and underside with a white spinner and yellow cowl
under the engine. This plane is "yellow 7" but that number
covers over a "Red 5" but both the red5 and yellow seven decals
are provided separately for the right side as reference photos for the
right side of this aircraft are unavailable. The Umbrella
attachments, but this plane did not have a Trop filter attached at this
point.
There was no mottling on the side of
the fuselage but there is a white fuselage band to indicate it's theatre
of operations. For artwork there is a black spade on a white
diamond on the side of the engine cowl. This is a fairly brightly
coloured aircraft.
The
third plane
is a
Bf-109G6 flown by Ace Hptm. Anton Hackl of Stab III./JG 11 while flying out of
Oldenburg, Germany in February 1944. By Feb 1944 he had 132 kills to
his credit. This plane is painted RLM 74/75 on the top surfaces and
RLM 76 on the sides and underside. There was large mottling on the side of
the fuselage. This plane has a yellow fuselage band and yellow
cowl under the engine. The spinner is
black and white. This aircraft was fitted with the underwing
cannon gondolas.
| The
fourth plane
is a
Bf-109G6/R6 Trop flown by Oberleutnant Emil Clade, Staffelkapitan of 7./JG
27 while flying out of Kalamaki, Greece in January of 1944. By
January 1944 he had no kills marked on his plane but by wars end he
had 26 kills to his credit. This plane is painted RLM 74/75 on
the top surfaces and
RLM 76 on the sides and underside. There was unique overlapping mottling on the side of
the fuselage. This plane has a white fuselage band. This
aircraft was fitted with the underwing cannon gondolas. For
artwork this plane has a crest on the engine cowl and an arrow going
through an apple on the side of the fuselage. This plane is
"White 9". This aircraft has a tall antenna
mast....also worth noting....this aircraft has no DF loop or base. |
| The decals were flawlessly printed
on 2 decal sheets and the clear
carrier film is trimmed very close to the crisply printed colored areas, which
is always good to see. This is 1/24....so the decal are large in
size.....as compred to the smaller scales of 1/48 and
1/72. This decal sheet has a good variety colour
schemes. Because these aircraft are WW2, some questions
about markings remain unanswered so You'll have to guess at the
mottling on the right side of the plane....but this is to be expected.
The instructions do include top views of the aircraft. |

The instructions
are clear and an extra page of text instruction is included with a small bit of info
about 3 of these planes as well as B&W line drawings showing stencil
placement.
A very nice product
and highly recommended.
I would like to
thank Cutting Edge
Modelworks for providing me with this review sample.
