A-10A Compass Ghost Tank Plinkers decal sheet

1/48 scale product #48003

Review by Steven R. Stohr

--------------------

One of the new decal companies to come sailing over the horizon in 2000, is Two Bob's Aviation Graphics.  To date, their product line features subjects that are well researched, and their decals are printed by MicroScale.  One of their newest offerings, is the A-10 Compass Ghost Tank Plinkers sheet.  This sheet is available in both 1/48th scale (#48-003) and in anticipation of the upcoming Trumpeter kit, it is offered in 1/32 scale (#32-002) as well.  Both of these sheets feature complete markings (including stencils) for two models.  One is SN AF79-175, and the other is SN AF79-191

79-175 is flown by the Maryland Air National Guard, and co-incidentally, is the subject aircraft of a Walkaround featured here on ARC, shot by Craig Baumer, who happens to crew chief this bird.  This bird is nicknamed "Hog of War" and carries artwork painted by Hank Caruso on the inside of the boarding ladder door.

If you go to the A10A walkaround, you will find many pictures of the subject aircraft in that series.  One thing you may notice, is that at the time the pictures were taken, 175 carries a different ribbon on the tail.  It has since been repainted, and the repainted aircraft is the subject of the Two Bobs decal sheet.

The Hank Caruso ladder door art can be seen directly below, and three other pictures of the subject aircraft's markings can be seen at the bottom of the page.  Our long term visitors will remember an AWA that the "ARC Censor" had blocked some images on the A10A pictures that Craig sent in last summer, well, these are the images in question!

79-191 is flown by the 414th at Nellis AFB, Nevada.  As with 175, it is basically a two tone (FS36320 over FS36375) paint scheme, with a false canopy painted in FS36118 (Gunship Gray)

The instructions with the sheet, are printed in color, on both sides of the page.  They feature right and left side views of both aircraft, and a top and bottom view, with the difference between the two aircraft noted.  They are clear, and well laid out.  The page also includes several pictures that the modeler can use as reference while building his model.  Additionally, more reference material is available on Two Bob's website, at www.twobobs.net.  You may also check out some of the upcoming planned releases on this site.

I'd like to finish up this review, by stating that the quality of the sheet, and instructions are as good as any of the major players in the decal market, and we need to get behind small companies like Two Bobs, and support them.  I'd like to thank Bob Sanchez and Bob Guere for bringing a great product to the market, and wish them continued success with their venture!
