I made this kit about 5 years ago, when I
was just a beginner. I had started with 1/144 kits, and was fortunate enough
to get my hands on this. I took extra care, and it turned out to be the best
model I have made so far. The above picture was converted into Black and White
using Photoshop, and it's come out very realistically indeed!
A Front view...
Since I did not have
access to (or know about) an airbrush, I hand painted the whole aircraft. The
kit has been painted with enamel paint, which I mixed up after taking a look at
the box art. I still shudder to think that I painted the canopy by hand, without
any masking, and it came off superbly!
Spitfire on the
tarmac...
The photos above and
below were taken after parking my Spitfire on a concrete slab, bringing the
camera up close, and resting the lens barrel on the slab to avoid shake. What do you think?

The fit of the
components was not a problem at all, and the kit went together very easily. I
did not know anything about putty or sanding at the time, so it was good that no
problems occurred.. ;P.

Photography
All the photos were taken with a
Nikon FG-20 SLR camera on the rooftop of my house. I used a tripod to eliminate
camera shake. Since it was a cloudy day, with patches of sun every now and then,
I had to wait until I got the proper background effect. It did not help either
that there was a gusty wind, with the result that my poor plane went skidding
for a few centimeters every time a breeze blew!
These were the settings I used:
Cloudy : Shutter
speed of 1/125 sec, Aperture at f-11 stop.
Sunny : Shutter
speed of 1/250 sec, Aperture at f-16 stop.
All in all, a very
enjoyable experience. This model enjoys pride of place in my collection, and it
is not hard to see why!
About me :
Hi, all fellow ARC
members. I am a Software engineer working at Bangalore, India. I am 30 years
old, and am happily married with a 1 1/2 year old baby daughter. I love WWII
Aircraft a lot, and have modeled about 15 kits so far. These are mainly in the
1/72 and 1/144 scales, and the Spitfire was my first foray into 1/48 kits. I
have also started using an airbrush for painting my models, and until now I used
to hand brush my Aircraft :-)!
I also love to
collect military encyclopedias, especially on WWII, and mainly on Aircraft
related subjects. Currently, I am also building up a modeling book collection,
and have about 10 books on Military and A/C modeling.
